Samsung Galaxy S21 should appear without a ToF sensor but with a headphone jack

Are there 2 big surprises with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21? Allegedly, the flagship should appear without a ToF sensor but with a headphone jack.

The Galaxy Note 20 flagships recently presented by Samsung came without built-in ToF sensors. A report from South Korea now states that the Samsung Galaxy S21 series will also appear without the ToF modules.

At the moment there are not enough use cases for this technology, it is said from South Korea. Also, the indirect ToF technology used by Samsung is less powerful than the direct ToF technology used by Apple. The latter is developed by Sony, but Samsung was unable to install it because Apple has signed an exclusive contract with the Japanese manufacturer.

Samsung hasn’t given up on the concept yet, however, with the company’s System LSI Business division reportedly developing an image sensor that could improve indirect ToF technology.

Last year, Samsung did without the headphone jack on the Galaxy Note 10 series for the first time. The reason for the decision was that removing the headphone jack frees up space to increase the battery capacity.

But with the Samsung Galaxy S21 series, the 3.5 mm jack connector should celebrate its comeback among the manufacturer’s flagships.

The leak says the reintroduction of the headphone jack will be more of a marketing gimmick to generate hype for the next S-series flagship.

However, it is still a rumor that should be treated with caution.
