The fingerprint sensor in the display is certainly one of the most useful inventions in smartphones in recent years. But this is still limited to a small part of the display. Huawei wants to change this.
Huawei has now confirmed to the Android Authority that it has applied for a patent for an all-screen fingerprint sensor in six markets (China, Europe, USA, Japan, Korea and India) and that approval is still pending.
It would not matter where you placed your finger on the display, the display would then be unlocked. This idea is of course not new, in the past there have of course been first attempts to enlarge the area for recognizing the fingerprint on the display.
What is new, however, is that it now has new application possibilities. You could then secure individual folders in certain areas of the display with a fingerprint. Nothing would change for the user to open it, he will continue to simply press the folder with his finger.
The same would of course also work for individual apps on the smartphone display.
Whether and when Huawei will implement this patent is not yet known.
